中国和俄罗斯之间的武器贸易在苏联解体后暴增，但是部分贸易出口在过去十多年里有所减缓。一方面，中国认为他可以自己制造不再需要从俄罗斯购进。另外一个原因，涉及到俄罗斯的知识产权，中国自己已经学会模仿并制造出口俄罗斯的武器。这使得俄罗斯不得不出口他家的高端武器。（教会徒弟饿死师傅的节奏啊！）
