India is an international joke. Ask any business traveler. There is no highway network, no passenger or freight rail network, no reliable flights during the monsoon, local roads that wash out in the rain.
But the worst is the Indira Gandhi Airport in Delhi. I arrived in Delhi in the morning by bus, dumped on the side of the road in the rain - no bus terminal - took a taxi to the airport, and they wouldn't let me in. My flight was at 3 am, and they only let you into the terminal 6 hours before the flight. The waiting room was only available to those flying the same day, so not until midnight. No bathroom was accessible, and I was told to use the bushes outside.

I asked two girls at the customer service desk for help. They gave me a non-functioning number to call, and hid their ID badges. I emailed the airport and never got a response. Finally, after shift change, a guard let me into the nearly empty waiting room downstairs. Meanwhile, several Europeans left in disgust, but a foreign journalist was finally let in, too.

There were dozens of armed soldiers everywhere. In Beijing, no soldiers. I mentioned my experience to a business traveler from Germany, and he had been through the same thing in Delhi. He laughed when I asked if he would seek business there.
Before boarding in Delhi, I was searched for a half hour by armed guards, every item with me queried and X-Rayed, apparently in retaliation for complaining.
In China, I was waved through customs with a smile.
